Understanding how to focus properly is one of the very first things you need to learn in photography—it guarantees a sharp image. With the sophistication of autofocus systems, it's easy to trust the camera to do everything by itself. That's a mistake. I'm certainly not saying you should switch to manual focus; but rather that you should learn to control sophisticated technologies.
