Ardagh Glass Packaging launches its breakthrough NextGen Furnace, which will reduce the carbon footprint of glass packaging. Renewable electricity via electrodes replaces 80% of gas for melting, to decarbonise the glassmaking process. Glass bottles made using this new technology will be more sustainable, as carbon emissions will be reduced by as much as 60% in the furnace.

Ardagh Glass Packaging’s NextGen Furnace is a groundbreaking, new hybrid electric furnace technology, which will lead to a significant reduction in CO2 emissions from the glass manufacturing process. Glass manufacturing has traditionally been an energy-intensive process. By changing the way the furnace is powered, Ardagh can deliver low-carbon, sustainable glass products that are key to a circular economy.

Watch our video to see how the NextGen Furnace uses predominantly renewable electricity and a small amount of gas to reduce the carbon footprint of glass packaging by as much as 60% in the furnace.
