Julia Roberts will be forever known as the “Pretty Woman” but in her latest film she is as far away from that as possible. In Secret In Their Eyes, Roberts plays an FBI detective who discovers her teenage daughter has been raped and brutally murdered. The Oscar winner went for a total make under to play Jess a woman who is grieving so bad the last thing she could care about it her appearance. The Oscar winner's skin is pale, her lips are dry and her hair looks as if she cut it herself. It was a freeing and cathartic experience for Julia to play the role, that was originally written to be played by a man. Secret in Their Eyes is a remake of sorts based on the Oscar winning Argentine film El Secreto de Sus Ojos, and the original novel of the same name.
Directed by Billy Ray, the film co-stars Nicole Kidman and Chiwetel Ejiofor. Rounding out the cast are Alfred Molina, House of Cards' Michael Kelly and Dean Norris of Breaking Bad.
Bonnie Laufer Krebs @movi_boni spoke with Julia Roberts in Los Angeles about taking on this role and where she had to go to play a person with such grief. The film was shot by her cinematographer husband Danny Moder who gave her nothing but support and comfort throughout but you'll be surprised to hear why she was a bit nervous about working with him on this particular project.
