Hi guys it’s Ken with this week’s News Refresh.

We all know Ford’s been pushing aluminum and ecoboost engines for their new half-ton trucks. In fact, the V8s leaving the Raptor in favor of a turbo 6 cylinder and their ad campaign has been completely focused on their new aluminum bodies.

The question is, will they do the same things to the new SUPER DUTY? Well, yes and no.

4WheelOnline Intro

Ford is reinventing their 2017 Super Duty bodies in line with their new F-150 trucks. Yep, the body is getting the aluminum-alloy makeover.

I know what you're thinking, I don’t need my heavy duty truck to save weight, I need it to be tough.

Well don’t worry, because Ford’s thinking the same thing. In fact, they are only shaving about 350 pounds off the new truck. that’s about half what was saved on the new F150s. The rest of the weight savings are going into beefing up the axles, frame, suspension, transfer case and all the components you really want to be heavy duty.

This all translates into a 95% high strength steel frame which Ford says is 24 times stiffer than the previous frame.

Ford also says their new Aluminum body is more ding and dent resistant than the outgoing steel, and it won’t be subject to corrosion. Sounds like a win-win to me.

Like the new F-150s they are getting overloaded with high-tech toys to make using your truck easier. The new Super Duty’s are going to be sporting cameras and LEDs everywhere! Seven cameras surround the truck, 5 of which help you when you are towing and trailering and an optional 360 degree camera system comes with the technology package. They also have a factory-available trailer camera that can be attached to the back of whatever you’re towing.

The new heavy duty trucks will also veer towards luxury with Ford’s new SYNC 3 infotainment system, blind spot information system with trailer tow, lane departure warnings, adaptive cruise control and collision warning with brake support. It even has a practical gun case you can add that is hidden under the rear seats.

Now, UNLIKE the F-150s, the EcoBoost won’t be showing up in any of the new Super Duties. In fact, they’ve gone with a lineup of tried and true engines.

The new Super Duties will be rocking a 6.2L V8 gas engine with a new TorqShift-G transmission, a 6.8L V10 gas engine and of course the 6.7-liter Power Stroke diesel. So yes, they’ll be bringing back a bunch of familiar engines that they say are improved for better towing and capability.

You can bet Ford wants to take back that best in class towing title from RAM.

So what are the performance figures exactly? Well, Ford is still being tight-lipped about the concrete numbers as the truck won’t go on sale until fall of next year.
