The only way out is through. This is something I say to my kids (and myself) all the time and it applies to everything, but especially to fear.
I used to be irrationally afraid of bees. I was the girl who would go running and screaming if a bee so much as flew within 10 feet of me. Let’s just say, I ran and screamed a lot which is why these video clips still blow my mind. Who is that lady in a tank top working with bees?
It’s not that I’m not still afraid, because I am, but I have taught my brain to slow down in the moments of fear. A trick I’ve developed over the years is to visualize how I’ll feel when the scary thing is over. I might not want to do it again, but I sure as heck feel proud, strong, capable and able to take on the next thing. I compare that with how I’ll feel if I don’t try, and the former always wins out.
Do you have any techniques for managing and overcoming fear? I’d love to hear about something you did you were afraid of and how you overcame it. It always gives me courage and inspires me to hear how other people faced their own fears.
Wishing you a beautiful day!
