Ah, line battles, the metaphorical bread and butter of a NW regiment and basically the reason they exist. What do we do? We basically have 100-v-100 (at max) deathmatches where people behave not like MLG quickscoper master chiefs, but napoleonic-era infantry regiments.
The rules in brief: People have to be in units and lines. Lines follow the commands of the leader over voice chat. Line infantry can only fire or reload while in line, firing out of line is a serious offense. Firing at officers is not permitted except in the midst of battle when they're engaging you. Once the order is given to charge, you must stop firing and melee only.
Basically, all of these are in place to avoid the battle breaking down the way it always does in public servers of any kind, and this is the kind of gameplay you can only get by joining a regiment and going with them to these events.
One way I've seen it described before is that basically, every infantry line is a Napoleon: Total War unit; as you train, so shall you fight, together always and never as John Rambo.
