In this video I will be explaining about Dynamic PAT on the CISCO ASA. Overview of Dynamic PAT and configuration related to Dynamic PAT on Cisco ASA. In previous lessons I explained how you can use dynamic NAT, Static NAT, so that your hosts or servers on the inside of your network are able to access the outside world. This is great but it requires a pool of Public IP addresses and is only for outbound traffic or in “ASA terminology”…traffic from a higher security level going to a lower security level.

Both static and dynamic Network Address Translations (NAT) allows the translation of local address to global address and allowing it to communicate to outside of the local area network. The problem is the number of global address is usually a lot less than the local address requiring the translation. To overcome this issue, Cisco ASA supports the usage of dynamic Port Address Translations or dynamic PAT in its device. If the administrator can configure dynamic Port Address Translations (PAT) in Cisco IOS router correctly, then one global address can be used for translations of multiple local address at once.

The Cisco ASA Family of security devices protects corporate networks and data centers of all sizes. It provides users with highly secure access to data and network resources - anytime, anywhere, using any device. Cisco ASA devices represent more than 15 years of proven firewall and network security engineering and leadership, with more than 1 million security appliances deployed throughout the world.
