Dork Cast 17 - Any Chart
I knew it was going to be a great conversation when Mark Peters from Any Chart played right along when I joked about their having a "Decomposing Tree" visualization. As you will see in the video I was actually referring to their Decomposition Tree. So powerful. So clean. So needed.
I've always loved the SanKey Diagram. You can see relationships between multiple dimensions. But it tends to intimidate some. The Decomposition Tree can show how values from other dimensions "compose" the total for a given dimension. You have to see it in action.
You know I always talk about storytelling, and the use case example Mark chose to showcase their Sunburst Diagram told a powerful story. First that the visual is a much better way to represent organization charts, than a typical one even with thousands of values. Secondly, that it could literally tell the story of an organization with a great many layers of management vs others that had far fewer. Again, you have to watch it in action.
