Postgres Database Installation Setup Configuration Tutorial Short for Beginners
PostgreSQL or Postgres is the most commonly used open-source relational database. It offers features like robustness, reliability, cost-free, etc. PostgreSQL serves as a data warehouse for multiple applications like web apps, mobile apps, etc. It enables us to store enormous and sophisticated data securely. PostgreSQL is a powerful, open-source object-relational database system with over 35 years of active development that has earned it a strong reputation for reliability, feature robustness, and performance.
** Step by Step Guide to Install and setup Postgres Database **
1. Download the installation files from the following website. Appropriate for your operating system. https://www.postgresql.org/download/
2. Click on downloaded file to start postgres db installation. Initially, a "welcome" window will appear; click "Next" to proceed.
3. You can select the components of your choice to install on your computer. We will proceed with the default settings, so just click on the “Next” button.
4. Select a data directory to store your data and click on the “Next” button.
5. Set a password for the Postgres superuser and click on the “Next” button. You must remember it for later use.
6. Whether set the port number or go with the default port number “5432” to connect to a database.
7. The next window will give you choice to select locale or leave them as it is, and click on the “Next” button.
8. The pre-installation summary will tell you which settings will be used for the installation.
9. The setup is ready to install Postgres in your operating system. Just click on the “Next” button to begin the installation.
10. Once the PostgreSQL setup wizard is completed, click on the “Finish” button to close the installation windows.
** Connect Postgres Database with PGAdmin or DBeaver Database tool **
1. Open pgadmin or Dbeaver database tool.
2. In the left pane, create a connection to database by providing database url, port, database name, username, password information.
3. Click connect to connect to database.
