How free are you, really?
Across history, different religions, philosophies and political worldviews have given radically different answers to this one question: how much control does an individual actually have over their life?
In this video, I rank 36 philosophies by individual agency, from systems where your life is largely shaped by God, fate, society, nature or cosmic law, to philosophies where the individual is expected to take almost complete ownership of their choices and meaning.
This is not a ranking of which philosophy is better. High agency isn't automatically good, and surrender isn't automatically bad. Every position comes with its own psychological strengths, contradictions and costs.
The meta question we are interested in is this:
When something happens in your life, who does a worldview ultimately ask you to look toward. Do they ask you to rely on God, on society, on destiny, nature… or yourself?
Hopefully somewhere among these 36 answers, you might find your own.
