USSR Prices in Euros, or: Is There Enough Sausage Now? Was Life Cheap in the USSR?
We're attempting to compare consumer prices in the USSR in 1985 with those in the European Union, using Latvia as an example.
The comparison is based on the average salary in the USSR in 1985 and the average salary in Latvia in 2022. Social transfers, as well as payments and benefits from public consumption funds, are not taken into account. Only the average person's take-home pay is considered. The resulting comparison may reveal some surprising results.
