Windows 8 is very similar to Windows 7 when used in the Desktop view. However, Microsoft decided to remove the Start button and menu previously found in the lower left corner. Instead, there is a button that brings you to the tiled interface, which is designed primarily for users of tablets and smartphones and is useless if you don't have a touch-enabled display.
It is possible to restore the functionality of the Start button and menu as found in Windows 7, by installing the free Power 8 program made by Mike "AgentMC" Makarov and Andrey Khabalevskyi.
