Check out my new development video on the PS3 and the Atari Jaguar!
• Why was the PS3 Difficult to Develop Games...
• Why was the Atari Jaguar so Difficult to D...
This was definitely one of the hardest growing pains into 3D software for video game consoles. Developers had to get really clever to do most of this work.
The texture cache was a perfect example being at 4kB, you could store one 64 x 64 texture in there at a time. With some clever swapping algorithms, maybe you could do 128 x 128 pretty fast, but still, very difficult.
