In this rope tutorial, Ropunawa teaches the Half Basket Tie with his model Freya.
The Basket Tie is a popular and classic shape that has taken Shibari Study students all the way from basic beginner ties to supportive suspensions and simple-yet-challenging inversions. As taught by Ropunawa, the Half Basket offers a twist on the familiar full version, only capturing one leg to the waist. While only ‘half’ the tie, the Half Basket offers a surprising amount of freedom and versatility of use with Ropunawa also demonstrating how to attach suspension lines for a beautifully asymmetrical partial suspension.
Because the Half Basket is less stable than its full counterpart, it’s important to understand the risks involved, which Ropunawa details in this class. As always, please only attempt suspending from this tie if you have prior experience with suspensions.
