Why can animals recognize numbers but not do math?
Did you know that animals, like dogs, cats, and monkeys, canrecognize numbers but only humans can do mathematics?
This fascinating fact was revealed in a recent study by the University of Vienna. The study found that cats are better than dogs at understanding numerical concepts, such as 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10. Meanwhile, monkeys were found to be the best decipherers of numerical sequences.
So why is this ability so important? Our ancestors probably relied on numerical reasoning when hunting and gathering. By understanding numbers, we can better organise and predict the movements of things in our environment.
