"Spinal Cord: The significant segment of nerve tissue that is associated with the cerebrum and exists in the vertebral channel and from which the spinal nerves arise. 31 sets of spinal nerves start in the spinal rope: 8 cervical, 12 thoracic, 5 lumbar, 5 sacral, and 1 coccygeal. The spinal cord is a long cylinder of nerves that runs from the base of your brain through the vertebral canal through the backbone. It is part of the central nervous system (CNS) along with the brain. It is divided into different segments. Each segment contains a pair roots made out of nerve fibers. Spinal cord is divided into five sections: the cervical, thoracic, lumbar, sacral, and coccygeal regions. The level of injury determines the extent of paralysis and/or loss of sensation. No two injuries are alike. The spinal cord and the brain together constitute the Central Nervous System. It is an incredibly complex and intricate mesh of nerves. "
