An abandoned golf course in Fort Collins, Colorado, presented a challenge to floodplain managers in the city government. The site had been artificially filled and elevated to reduce on-site flooding with the unintended consequence of shunting water quickly through the downstream bridge. Fast-moving water during floods introduces danger, among other challenges, so the city worked with the new site owner, Woodward, Inc., to design and build using a better understanding of hydrology and climate.
