Lot tracking is a recommended best practice by not only government, but also industry authorities, such as the Brewers Association, to help with risk mitigation in case of a recall.
From production to the distribution process, batch tracking gives you the ability to preserve the chain of custody. This allows internal users who are maintaining certifications, like organic, to reduce the need for having records outside of Ekos.
Should there be an issue with one of your batches you now have the added visibility to see where something went wrong. This functionality adds an extra level of quality assurance improving consistency across batches, including barrel aging programs.
We provide you with lot picking methods that take you down to the itemized level, including: FIFO (first in, first out), LIFO (last in, last out), and FEFO (first expired, first out). Along with lot tracking comes the ability to start holding distributors, warehouse, and delivery drivers accountable for the product they are responsible for.
This this is helpful in the event any of your product is damaged between completion of production and arrival at a customer's facility.
Another added benefit of Ekos lot tracking is batch data by packaging run. With the clear organization of your batch information now living in Ekos, your team can easily print labels to help identify which lots are associated within your packaged goods. This helps in the event of something being contaminated.
When it comes to production size and lot tracking, it isn't a fit for everyone. If you are producing under 5,000 barrels per year, we believe it is a good practice to start considering for your team.
For 5,000 – 10,000 barrels producers, it is a preferred practice and we recommend starting before the 10,000+ barrels per year production size.
At 10,000 barrels and larger it is a strongly preferred practice, and we recommend having it in place.
Overall, Ekos lot tracking allows you to track your batch ingredients, transfers, transitions, and finished goods on invoices.
Traceability from raw materials to customer delivery allows you to set more accurate expiration and best-by-dates for finished goods.
