Kim Pong Sil, teacher of the Pyongyang Students and Children´s Palace, says:
"With the approach of the significant Day of the Sun, I long for the fatherly leader President Kim Il Sung all the more. In the secondary school days I was brushing up my artistic skills to my heart´s content at the Pyongyang Students and Children´s Palace. I had the honour to give performance in presence of President Kim Il Sung on several occasions as a xylophonist in the lead of light music. It was one day in December Juche 63 or 1974 that I gave the first performance before him. I had learnt the xylophone only for one year. I could not play it properly as my heart beat rapidly for fear of a mistake. But he watched my unskilled performance, still no more than a beginner´s performance, and showed love and gave strength to me, saying I had played well and if I play the musical instrument like that from childhood, I can become a good artiste when I grew up. Two years later, one May day in Juche 65 or 1976, he appreciated our performance again together with the head of state of a foreign country who was visiting our country. That day, he praised me time and again, saying, of the schoolchildren performing light music the girl who plays the xylophone is best and she is better than artiste of a professional art troupe. After the performance was over, he stood up first and gave us a big hand, mounted the stage to congratulate us on the successful performance. At that time I was standing in the middle of the front row and made a bow to him. Pressing my small hand, he warmly encouraged me to become a fine xylophonist in the future. Under his great loving care incomparably warmer than that of my parents, I grew to be a professional xylophonist.
I cannot forget all my life what happened one day in July Juche 67 or 1978 when I returned home after successful performance tour abroad as a member of the Pyongyang Schoolchildren´s Art Troupe. That day we gave a performance before President Kim Il Sung upon our return home. I took the stage with a resolve to give pleasure to him by performing well on a high level. I was performing the xylophone solo ´The cook wagon is rolling´, but alas! An unexpected thing happened. The head of a hammer slipped out and rolled on the stage. I felt dizzy as if all my strength was gone. I braced myself up and quickly and artistically drew out a spare hammer which was put in the xylophone and continued performance without stop. After the performance I had to make a bow, but tears stood in my eyes because of the mistake.
But President Kim Il Sung clapped his hands first and asked for an encore. He understood my regret for the mistake during the performance and told me to play once more, giving a great encouragement and warm love to me. That day he warmly shook hands with us and congratulated us on the successful performance like a father receiving his children who had done good work in foreign land. We saw in him the father who was embracing schoolchildren of the whole country and training them as pillars of the country.
Today, the noble love shown by the great leaders Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il to the schoolchildren, the rising generations, is carried on by respected Marshal Kim Jong Un. I will devote all my enthusiasm to training more little xylophonists who can give pleasure to respected Marshal Kim Jong Un as I gave pleasure to President Kim Il Sung with xylophone performance in the past."
