Story of the First Winter Ascent of Kanchenjunga
In January 1986, a small Polish-led expedition attempted what most considered impossible: the first winter ascent of Kanchenjunga, the world’s third highest mountain.
Without Sherpa support, without bottled oxygen, and with minimal funding, they climbed through brutal storms and extreme cold pushing into the death zone. Two made it to the summit. One never returned.
