Now in its thirteenth year, the Penguin Random House Student Design Award is one of the most prestigious book cover design competitions in the UK. Open exclusively for students, it provides a chance for them to win a work placement with the Penguin Random House Design Studios as well as £1,000 in prize money.
This year, The Establishment by Owen Jones is the chosen brief for the Adult Non-Fiction Cover Award. Selected by Jim Stoddart, Penguin Press' Art Director, the title is still an important part of the political discussion and debate today, after being published in the run up to the 2015 General Election. Part historical overview, part deconstruction of the way Britain is managed, we're looking for new cover designs which reframe the book to continue to build its reach over the next ten years.
In this video, Jim takes us through why he chose it, as well as some of his top tips. For the full design brief, visit http://bit.ly/designawardowen.
Entries for this year's Award will open in December with a closing date of 5 March 2019.
