Fun fact: the "Shepard" in "Shepard Tone" refers to cognitive scientist Roger Shepard, who described the illusion in 1964. Composer Jean-Claude Risset later created a version where the sound slides continuously instead of stepping between notes, often called the Shepard-Risset glissando (that smooth, endless rise/fall effect).
