Heron Island Hotel on the Great Barrier Reef / Australia
Imagine an island in the middle of a barrier reef. An island so small that it only has one hotel. An island ruled by birds. Where drinking water is obtained by recycling seawater, where there's no phone line, where you can't turn on the lights at night to avoid scaring the turtles, where the doors aren't locked, and where you can only swim off once a day, barring a storm, otherwise only by helicopter or plane. Where there's so much life around that it takes your breath away every time you look into the water. Turtles, sharks, rays, stunningly beautiful fish, and an incredible coral world. This is Heron Island.
