Maria Tipo's debut LP on the Vox label was a 1956 vinyl devoted to 12 Scarlatti Sonatas. Recorded in 1955 in a session that lasted merely four hours , these performances feature the young Italian pianist playing with her beautiful singing sonority, crisp articulation, refined pedal technique, buoyant rhythm, and wonderfully defined melodic lines. Newsweek magazine (back when it apparently covered classical releases) called the disc "the most spectacular record of the year."
