Why lasting power of attorney matters after a dementia diagnosis
Lasting power of attorney would help Saskia to get the best care for her mum, Teresa, who is living with dementia in a care home.
Saskia was a teenager when she first started to notice changes in her mum. It has taken eight years for them to get a dementia diagnosis, after periods of denial, delays and the pandemic.
Saskia wishes her mum had got a diagnosis earlier so that they could be more prepared. As Teresa can no longer speak and give consent, Saskia has not been able to get lasting power of attorney or access her mum’s medical records.
