Often, people with early stage lung cancer have no symptoms. A lung cancer screening is a chest scan to look for signs of lung cancer. Former and current smokers who are most at risk for developing lung cancer should be screened in order to have a better chance of being diagnosed at an early and more curable stage. For early stage lung cancer, typically surgery is offered as the first option to remove the portion of the lung that contains the cancer. This is called a lobectomy.
