00:00:02.100 One of the questions we get asked is, How much drop do I need and how do I measure the drop.
00:00:08.320 Well actually it's quite easy.
00:00:12.780 First, go to the back of your pickup or tow vehicle measure to the top of the receiver tube from the ground. Make sure tow vehicle is level.
00:00:18.700 In this case, it's 20 inches.
00:00:22.060 Secondly, measure to the base of the ball, the flat part of your hitch.
00:00:31.640 In this case it's 18 inches.
00:00:34.620 We've got two inches of drop right now. So how much am I gonna need?
00:00:39.200 Let's go over to the trailer, measure from the ground to the bottom of the trailer coupler. Make sure the trailer is on level ground.
00:00:45.780 That's 17 inches. but I know that the shank shaft from the base to the bottom of the hitch ball is 1 inch.
00:00:52.120 So I've got 16 inches. So 20" minus 17" - 3" then subtract 1" for shaft height of hitch ball. Here we need 2 inches of drop to make the trailer tow level.
00:00:58.740 One thing to consider, is the back of your truck is going to come down

Measure to Top of Vehicle Receiver Hitch (Vehicle Should Be Level)
Measure to Bottom of Trailer Coupler (Trailer Should Be Level)
Math: Top of Receiver 24″ | Bottom of Trailer Coupler: 19″ | Subtract 1″ for Height of Hitch Ball Shaft. (24″ – 19″ = 5″) – 1″ = 4″ of Drop Needed
*Note: Most Hitch Balls has a 1″ shaft from base to bottom of ball. If you have a more than 1″ shaft, then change the height of the hitch ball.
