So for a while now, many of my subscribers and some comments iv seen online, have asked the question of how to tell if a phone is refurbished or not or how to tell if a vintage phone is a refurb?..this is an issue as most phone collectors do not like if their phones have been swapped with 3rd party parts and would rather have a older scratched up one with the original parts rather than a refurbished on with knock off parts.
This issue has persisted for a while now as a lot of Chinese eBay sellers sell badly refurbished phones as new knowing, that some of these phones are highly sought after by collectors. Nokia, Sony Ericsson, LG, Samsung, Motorola, HTC..etc, they are all subject to this annoying practice and some people have actually fallen for this. but today, with my experience, I have put together a video detailing how to spot a refurb phone and tell it apart from one that has its original parts. Some of these refurbished phones are good in impersonating the real thing..but not 100% good ;)
I did this video because I am a phone collector as well with a massive phone collection which includes rare and vintage phones.
My collection also includes Nokia Prototypes, Blackberry Prototypes, Sony Ericsson prototypes, Sony Prototypes, HTC Prototypes, Rare Nokia and other rare developer devices! They are no Android 11 or Android 12 powerhouses and also ain't no iPhone 13 Pro Max, Sony Xperia Pro 1, Google Pixel 6, Lumia 950Xl, Lumia 1520, Lumia 1020, Google Pixel 6 Pro, Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra, Motorola Edge S or OnePlus 8T but are definitely interesting phones to collect!
So lets take a look at how you can avoid refurbished phones when searching for vintage devices for your collection!
