A young man visited the Paid Skin and Venereal Diseases Clinic in Moscow with persistent pimples in his pubic area after shaving. Upon examination, small, flesh-colored, slightly inflamed nodules were visible. These lesions had been present for two and a half months and did not resolve with salicylic alcohol rubs or bacterial ointments.
A dermatoscope examination revealed that these lesions contained a white mass, not pus. This turned out to be molluscum contagiosum, a viral skin disease that is transmitted both by contact and sexually. In adults, molluscum contagiosum most often occurs in the genital area, particularly in the pubic region, where the skin is thin.
The incubation period for this condition ranges from two weeks to six months. In such cases, it is necessary to remove these lesions using radiofrequency ablation and the anesthetic cream "Emla." Follow-up examinations and removal of any new lesions are necessary after two to three weeks.
