Here is a little summary! I hope this helps.
As a music producer, I have found that midi keyboards aren't necessary in order to make music.
If you're wondering what is a midi keyboard, it is a piece of music studio gear that is used to send musical information to your computer.
After going through different midi keyboards and having produced music for a while now, I feel like they are not worth the money, even if you do go for a cheap midi keyboard.
For those who like a nice clean setup, a midi controller keyboard is both too bulky to keep out and too much of a hassle to put away. Even the best cheap midi keyboard isn't going to be preferable to a nice clean desk, in my opinion.
That's why I use my computer keyboard whenever I need midi input. It's really the best midi keyboard controller there is because it is free, not an extra piece of equipment to have out, and it looks nice too!
For anyone who is trying to buy a midi controller, anyone who is looking for which midi keyboard to buy, I would say put that money in something that will directly effect your ability to make better music, such as better sounds or buying back your time to make more music. Don't get caught in the trap of thinking that any money spent on music gear will make your music better!
If after this you're still wondering what midi keyboard should I get, here's what I would say: If you're willing to learn a bit about music theory and aren't good at clicking in midi notes in the piano roll and if you don't care as much about form over function, then a midi keyboard controller may be for you.
As for which one to get, when getting a midi keyboard cheap may be the way to go — I don't really see a huge advantage with the mid-priced ones.
