For years the Leipzig Philharmonic Orchestra has set the highest standard for excellence in musical performance both at home and around the world, gaining enormous public recognition along the way. The orchestra’s definitively warm sound, from the German tradition, has been widely praised. On the occasion of Eritrea's independence celebrations on May 24, the Leipzig Philharmonic Orchestra visited Asmara.
With conductor Prof Michael Köhler 35 members of the orchestra traveled to Eritrea for the very first time 2015 in order to play two concerts in Asmara. On May 24, the Eritrean Independence Day, the orchestra performed live at the stadium in front of thousands of guests - among them government representatives and diplomats as well as Asmara's youth.
