The Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 released in 2023. It wasn’t perfect, but it was still an incredible way to revisit the first three Metal Gear Solid games on modern platforms. A year later, Konami dropped Version 2.0, fixing many of the big issues — but since then? Silence. No word on Master Collection Vol. 2.
Meanwhile, Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater was released, and it’s fantastic. But here’s the truth: we still don’t have a way to play the entire Metal Gear saga on a single console or PC. Metal Gear Solid 4 is still locked on the PlayStation 3. Peace Walker is still fragmented across older systems. And The Twin Snakes remains trapped on the GameCube, never re-released.
That’s where my wishlist for Master Collection Vol. 2 comes in. And the third game might surprise you.
✅ My Wishlist for Volume 2:
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
Kojima’s magnum opus. A perfect ending to Solid Snake’s story, and one of the most cinematic, ambitious games ever made. It’s a tragedy this masterpiece is still stuck on PS3.
Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker
Originally on PSP, later remastered on some consoles, Peace Walker set the groundwork for MGSV. With its bite-sized missions, addictive Mother Base system, and gorgeous comic-style cutscenes, it’s one of the best portable games ever — and it deserves preservation.
Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes
Controversial, yes. But I love it. A remake of MGS1 in the MGS2 engine, with wild Kojima-style cutscenes and a unique identity. It’s part of the series’ history, and it belongs in the collection.
Why Not MGSV?
It’s already available on modern consoles and PC. Unless Konami restores the cut content or finishes the story (unlikely without Kojima), I don’t see the point of including it here.
Why This Matters
Game preservation is important. I want to one day do a full playthrough of the Metal Gear series — every game, every chapter, start to finish — without juggling old consoles and emulators. And I want future generations to have that same chance, to see the entire saga, warts and all.
