E 32 - MANUEL GUTIERREZ NOVEL - The metaverse
Proudly Mexican, Manuel Gutiérrez Novelo, inventor of 3DBluray, with multiple patents used in modern virtual reality, and creator of AlterSpace, offers us a reflection on the power of the Metaverse to bring us closer, without borders, to who we truly are: Humans.
There was an open house for people to visit NASA, and among the exhibits was our virtual reality exhibit. Then a boy, possibly the same age I was when I imagined the VIEWMASTER—8 or 9 years old—arrived, dressed as an astronaut. He got in line, came with his mom, and was incredibly excited to see what we were testing in virtual reality… I handed him the headset, he put it on, and started shouting excitedly: “Mom, I’m on the moon, I’m walking on the moon, I’m a real astronaut!” How many bridges we built that day! At that moment, I realized the potential of all this, of virtual reality, of immersion, of interactivity. It can take us anywhere, it can take us to any time, it can teach us anything.
