Lo! He Comes With Clouds Descending is an English Advent hymn written by John Cennick and Charles Wesley in 1758. Its most common arrangement, the one used in this recording, was created by Thomas Olivers five years later. The hymn describes the Second Coming of Christ, a major focus of Advent celebrations. It was considered one of four ‘great Anglican hymns’ in the 18th century.
