Uber Technologies is cutting 200 jobs in its recruitment division as part of its efforts to streamline costs and maintain a flat staff count for the year. This reduction represents less than 1% of Uber's global workforce, which currently stands at around 32,700 employees.
The latest cuts target 35% of Uber's recruiting team, indicating a significant reduction in that department. This move follows earlier layoffs in Uber's freight services division, where 150 employees were let go.
Unlike its competitor Lyft, which has implemented larger workforce reductions in recent months, Uber has opted for smaller cuts. During the pandemic in mid-2020, Uber reduced its staff count by 17%.
