Every now and again I like to check directions on my mac before starting out on a journey. Rather than having to enter those directions again into my phone when I’m in the car, I simply click on the share icon and here I get a list of my other devices. If you don’t see your other devices here it might be because they’re not using the same Apple ID or you might need to enable Apple maps in iCloud. The directions will appear as a notification and tapping on the notification will open it Apple Maps.
If your devices aren’t listed as a share option, you can instead use Airdrop, assuming you have Airdrop enabled in Settings. Using airdrop automatically opens your directions in Apple Maps without needing to tap anything.
If you want to send your directions to someone else entirely, you can ofcourse just message them. They can then tap on your message to open the directions in Apple Maps.
If you’re wanting to send directions from your iPhone to someone else's iPhone, you’ll need to choose your route if you have more than one option. Tap on it to view the individual directions, and scroll all the way to the bottom of the screen to find the share icon. Strangely I only have the option to Airdrop my directions from my iPhone. There doesn’t seem to be a way to message or send my directions to someone other than by using Airdrop. Assuming the person is close enough to you to receive Airdrop they just need to tap accept and Apple maps will open automatically.
