Note this is not an exhaustive list of every programming language, but I tried to hit the main programming languages released in the 2010s (plus some interesting ones).
The complete history of programming languages can be a confusing and winding road. One moment you're looking at COBOL and the next you're trying to decipher random Objective-C. It becomes difficult to link the history of programming languages. In order to dive deeper into the interesting history of programming languages, this video specifically focuses on the history of programming languages released in the 2010s.
In terms of the history of programming, the 2010s brought very specialized programming languages like cuneiform, but also fan-favorite general purpose programming languages like Kotlin and Swift. Throughout the history of programming languages, as time progresses, languages seem to get more readable and more powerful (with a few exceptions).
Additionally, the history of coding is filled with iteration. Since the very first programming language, subsequent programming languages throughout history have taken and gotten rid of features from prior languages. C was an iteration of ALGOL, C++ was an iteration of C, Java was an iteration of C++, JavaScript was (sorta) an iteration on Java, Typescript was an iteration on JavaScript and so on. Therefore, throughout all of the research related to the history of programming languages, one of the main takeaways for me was how iterative the development of programming languages truly is.
Comment down below what you thought about this brief history of programming languages in the 2010s!
