All the given answers will be correct, because Maslenitsa is a multi-faceted holiday and contains a huge number of meanings and symbols. And yet, what is Maslenitsa? Where did it come from? How was it celebrated before?
The last day of Cheese Week is called Forgiven Sunday. It ends a series of preparatory weeks for Lent. In total, the "introductory" period lasts 22 days, and during this time the Church adjusts the faithful to the right spiritual mood.
Such close attention to the Lenten cycle is quite natural, because it is the core of the entire liturgical year in most Christian Churches. The Post is a special time. It appeared under the influence of the Palestinian monastic practice – local monks spent almost the entire forty-day period before Easter alone, dispersed to deserted places.
