In this video, we troubleshoot a real-world Azure Virtual Machine (VM) Remote Desktop (RDP) connectivity issue.
Problem Statement:
The Azure VM is running and appears healthy, but Remote Desktop (RDP) access is failing.
Current Environment / Configuration:
• VM is hosted in Microsoft Azure
• VM is in running state and healthy
• RDP port 3389 is allowed in the Network Security Group (NSG)
• VM public IP is reachable
• No firewall restrictions are blocking the connection
Despite all of the above configurations appearing correct, the RDP connection still fails.
In this tutorial, we walk through:
• Azure VM RDP troubleshooting steps
• Checking NSG and connectivity
• Verifying Windows Remote Desktop configuration
• Understanding the fDenyTSConnections registry setting
• Enabling RDP using Command Prompt
• Additional firewall and service checks
• Common causes of RDP failures in Azure
Registry Command Used:
reg add "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\Terminal Services" /v fDenyTSConnections /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f
