In this video, you’ll learn how to set up a secure Docker Private Registry using Harbor with HTTPS (TLS/SSL) and integrate the Trivy vulnerability image scanner for continuous container security.
This tutorial helps you configure Harbor from scratch on Ubuntu — including certificate setup, user authentication, and image scanning using the in-built Trivy scanner. Perfect for DevOps engineers, security teams, and anyone deploying containers securely in production.
By the end, you’ll have a fully working private Docker registry protected by TLS and ready for secure image uploads and scans.
⚙️ Instruction Steps (No Timeline)
Install Docker & Docker Compose
Update your system and install Docker Engine and Docker Compose packages on Ubuntu.
Download Harbor Installer
Get the latest Harbor offline installer package from the official GitHub release page.
Extract and Configure Harbor YML
Extract the tarball and edit the harbor.yml file — set hostname, certificate paths, and enable HTTPS.
Generate SSL/TLS Certificates
Use OpenSSL to generate self-signed or CA-signed certificates for Harbor registry and configure them in the system.
Install and Run Harbor
Run ./install.sh to deploy Harbor using Docker Compose. Verify all containers are running successfully.
Access Harbor UI
Open your browser and navigate to https://your-harbor-domain to log in with admin credentials.
Enable Trivy Image Scanner
Go to Harbor configuration → Scan settings → Enable Trivy. It will automatically start vulnerability scanning.
Push and Scan Docker Images
Login to Harbor from your terminal, push Docker images, and verify vulnerability scan reports in the UI.
Secure Image Lifecycle
Configure scan policies and automatically block vulnerable images from being pulled or promoted.
