National Broadcasting Day in India is celebrated on July 23rd each year. This day commemorates the first-ever radio broadcast in India, which took place on July 23, 1927, from the Bombay Station under the Indian Broadcasting Company. It is a day to recognize the significant role of radio and broadcasting in informing, educating, and entertaining the masses.
The Indian Broadcasting Company was later bought by the British government and renamed All India Radio (AIR) in 1936.
In 1956, All India Radio officially adopted the name Akashwani, which means "voice from the sky".
