Welcome back everybody my name is Tucker, and today I wanted to talk about an event in NBA history that has had an enormous impact on the league as a whole - the 2016 NBA salary cap spike. Essentially, back in 2016 a new NBA TV right deal went into effect, and along with it brought a huge increase in revenue, which in turn caused a huge jump in the NBA salary cap. The cap went from around $70 million to around $95 million dollars, and this allowed a lot of teams to sign average players to huge contracts, but also allowed the record breaking 73 win Golden State Warriors to sign Kevin Durant in 2016 NBA free agency... and the impact of that jump and the contracts and player movement that followed had a gigantic impact on the rest of the league, and continues to to this day.
