Retro Nick reviews a NEW game for a change, as he fires up The Angry Video Game Nerd 8-Bit! Developed and published by Retroware and releasing for Steam, Switch, Playstation and XBox on October 23rd. I received a review copy from Retroware's PR person, Francis DiPersio, and I've had 6 hours of fun with it at the time of this post.

Anyone who knows me knows that I wouldn't normally review a new game. However, the Angry Video Game Nerd 8-Bit does not just feature an 8-bit aesthetic. This is a true 8-bit game that is heavily influenced by the likes of Megaman, and has an upcoming physical release for the Nintendo Entertainment System ON A REAL CARTRIDGE, which is coming soon courtesy of Mega Cat Studios and Limited Run Games.

The Angry Video Game Nerd was a pioneer in the online video game reviews space, making way for the likes of Classic Game Room, Sega Lord X and-of course, Retro Nick Relics. He proved that anyone with some video production know-how and a deep knowledge of classic games could build an audience without the backing of a major publication. That said, AVGN found success with his intense, scatological humor and famously angry rants.

Now The Angry Video Game Nerd 8-Bit continues the nerd's story as he jumps, zaps and slides his way through 6 stages of intensely difficult classic platforming action.

Does a show about an angry drunken nerd in a basement with every domestic NES release and an impressive shelf of Sega Saturn games behind him translate into a must-play 8-bit adventure? Or is this game a Cowa-f@#&ing piece of dog $h!t? You'll just have to watch to find out!
