Railway Switches are HIGH RISK!!
But why? Switches, moveable bits of rail that allow trains to changed tracks, are higher risk than normal bit of plain line track. This is due to the forces they are subjected and the fact they are thinner than normal pieces of rail.
Proper lubrication of the switch tip helps to mitigate the risks as well as extent the life of the switch blade
