In this video, I'll show you 3 practical tips to never make a mistake when compressing again, understanding once and for all what each compressor parameter does and how it affects the sound of your voice, drums, bass, or any other instrument.
What is a compressor?
A compressor is a dynamics processor that controls peaks and balances the volume of the audio, making everything more cohesive and professional. When used correctly, it adds weight, control, and presence to your mix.
Main compressor parameters:
Threshold: Defines the level at which compression begins to act.
Ratio: Determines how much the signal above the threshold will be reduced.
Attack: Controls the speed at which the compressor begins to act—slow attacks make the sound more "punchy".
Release: Defines how long the compressor takes to stop acting after the signal falls below the threshold.
Make-up Gain: Compensates for the volume reduced by compression.
