📚 SQL Overview:
SQL (Structured Query Language) is a standardized programming language for managing and manipulating relational databases(RDBMS: Relational Database Management System). It is widely used to interact with databases and perform various operations, such as querying, updating, inserting, and deleting data.
💡 RDBMS(Relational Database Management System) Key Features:
📌 Tabular Structure:
✔ Data is stored in tables (rows and columns).
✔ Each table has a unique name and consists of columns (fields) and rows (records).
📌 Data Relationships:
✔ Tables can be related to each other through keys.
✔ Primary Key: A unique identifier for each row in a table.
✔ Foreign Key: A column in one table that links to the primary key in another table.
📌 SQL (Structured Query Language):
✔ RDBMS uses SQL for defining, querying, and manipulating data.
📌 Data Integrity:
✔ Ensures data accuracy and consistency through constraints like NOT NULL, UNIQUE, and CHECK.
📌 ACID Properties (Ensuring Reliable Transactions):
✔ Atomicity:
Ensures all or nothing for a transaction.
Example: Deduction from Account A and addition to Account B must both succeed, or no change occurs.
✔ Consistency:
Ensures the database remains in a valid state before and after a transaction.
Example: The total balance across accounts remains unchanged after the transfer.
✔ Isolation:
Prevents transactions from interfering with each other.
Example: Other transactions won't see intermediate states during a transfer.
✔ Durability:
Guarantees committed changes are permanent, even after a system failure.
Example: After COMMIT, changes to Account A and B persist even if the database crashes.
📌 Multi-User Support:
✔ Allows concurrent access by multiple users while maintaining data integrity.
Key Features of SQL:
📌 Data Querying: Retrieve specific data using commands like SELECT.
📌 Data Manipulation:
✔ Insert (INSERT)
✔ Update (UPDATE)
✔ Delete (DELETE)
📌 Data Definition:
✔ Create and modify database structures using CREATE, ALTER, and DROP commands.
📌 Data Control:
✔ Manage access and permissions using GRANT and REVOKE.
📌 Transactions:
✔ Ensure data integrity with commands like COMMIT, ROLLBACK, and SAVEPOINT.
Database Structure Overview:
📌 Database:
✔ A container that holds tables and other SQL structures related to those tables.
📌 Table:
✔ A structure inside a database that contains data, organized in columns and rows.
📌 Column:
✔ Represents a single field or attribute in the table.
✔ Defines the type of data stored in that field (e.g., INTEGER, VARCHAR, DATE).
✔ Every column has a name (e.g., id, name, email) and holds data of the same type for all rows.
📌 Row:
✔ Contains all the information about one object in the table.
✔ Rows are also called records or tuples.
