How to back up your device with Google One
Hi everyone, welcome to my video blog where I share tips and tricks on how to use Google One. In this episode, I'm going to show you how to back up your device with Google One and why it's important to do so.
Backing up your device means that you can have another copy of your photos, videos, contacts, and other items in the cloud. This way, if you lose your phone or get a new one, you can easily restore your data from your backup.
Google One makes it easy to back up your device automatically. All you need is the Google One app on your Android phone and a Google One membership. Your backups are uploaded to Google servers and they're encrypted with your Google Account password. For some data, your phone's screen lock PIN, pattern, or password is also used to encrypt your data so it can be backed up safely.
With Google One, you can back up various types of data from your phone, such as app data, call history, contacts, settings, SMS messages, pictures and videos, and MMS messages. You can also choose to back up your media in full resolution or compressed quality.
To set up your device backup with Google One, follow these steps:
On your Android phone, open the Google One app.
At the bottom, tap Storage.
Scroll to "Backup" and tap View.
If this is your first phone backup: Tap Set up data backup.
If this isn't your first phone backup: Tap View details.
To see your backup settings, tap Manage backup.
Choose your backup settings.
If you get advice to install an app, update an app, or change your settings follow the onscreen steps. Then, go back to the Google One app to finish.
If asked, tap Allow permissions.
At the top left, tap Back.
Your Google One backup can take up to 24 hours. When your data is saved, "On" will be below the data types you selected.
You can also start or stop a backup manually at any time. To do that:
On your Android phone, open the Google One app.
At the bottom, tap Storage.
Scroll to the device backup section.
If this is your first phone backup: Tap Set up data backup.
If this isn't your first phone backup: Tap View details.
To find your backup settings, tap Manage backup.
To back up the data on your phone, turn on Device data.
To back up your media in the best quality, turn on Full resolution photos & videos.
To back up your MMS texts, turn on Multimedia messages.
Tap Back up now.
To stop future device backups:
On your Android phone, open the Google One app.
Scroll to the device backup section and tap See details.
Turn off the types of data which you don’t want to back up.
If you get a new phone or need to factory reset your current one, you can restore your data from your Google One backup while you set up your new phone. Just follow the on-screen steps at setup. The process can take up to 24 hours.
If you turn off Backup by Google One on your device or don't use it for 57 days, your backups are deleted. Photos and videos that you previously backed up remain saved in Google Photos.
