STEM + A = STEAM! automata that I conceptualized, designed, prototyped, and fabricated during a PLTW IED PD gap weekend at Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 2017. Apologies for the rather shaky one-hand-one-shot-dorm-room video quality...

This STEM + A = STEAM! automata was constructed from red oak, MDF, polycarbonate, steel, rubber, metal foil, salvaged fiberglass, and salvaged soda cans/bottles. As you watch the video you will see a metal foiled ‘A’ for Art emerge as you look lengthwise through the oft misprioritized STEM for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, suggesting that Art and Design are the primary, unifying disciplines that animate and empower the STEM automata that all-too-often steal the show.
