Steps are:
1. Open your VLC Media Player program.
2. Click Media
3. Click Convert / Save or for shortcut press Ctrl + R
4. Then on the file tab click Add... Button
5. Then browse your movie file .flv that you want to convert
6. Notice that your original file extension is still .flv
