Prairie Asunder Internet Radio is an on-demand Internet Radio that caters exclusively to musicians and artists from/near the Central Illinois area. This station is 100% non-commercial, non-capitalist, and without external revenue. We seek to encourage the support of original local musicians and their live performances by showcasing an infinitely eclectic mix of music to prove to Central Illinois residents that their personal tastes in music are well represented right outside of their front door.
PAIR functions under the notion that community is important, and we believe that local art is essential to a community. Much of the music presented by the mainstream is inherently profit motivated; if not by the artist, than by those that promote and profit off of the artists' works. By our estimation, large record labels, Hollywood and their kin destroy the nutrition in the "soul food" that music is meant to be, and fail to inspire the listener much beyond dropping their money on rushed, incomplete and over-processed albums. This, of course, isn't true of all art showcased by the mainstream, but certainly holds true for an ever-increasing percentage of it.
Sincere art is capable of incredible things, in that it holds the capacity to shape minds and break barriers. It promotes understanding through the artist and the demographic of people represented within the art. It tells stories of joy, anger, fear, society and all of its struggles, and it moves the listener to feel, remember and learn through a form of human communication as old as our existence. Prairie Asunder believes this should be nursed and cradled by those doing the communicating, rather than exploited by profiteers.
People in tune with the art of their community are naturally better understanding of their community. Personally, I believe that art plays a vital role in societal awareness, and I hope that by drawing more individuals into honest artistic communication, we can help to trump apathy moving into a very uncertain future.
